About Los Gauchos

Los Gauchos Soccer Club is based in Redlands, California, in the East valley of the Inland Empire. In the 2010 season, Los Gauchos consists of 16 competitive boys and girls teams ranging from U9 to U19. Our teams attract players from the surrounding areas such as San Bernardino, Riverside, Yucaipa, Highland, Mentone, Lake Arrowhead, Colton, Rialto, Grand Terrace, Jurupa, Fontana and Palm Springs.

Los Gauchos Soccer Club provides professional training and player development to qualified players to assist them in advancing to play at the highest levels of play available in the state. Many of the local high school and college teams are comprised of players who have demonstrated their ability to improve their skills and tactics through Los Gauchos.

 Our Goal

The Club exists to provide an environment where players can reach their personal goal, whatever that may be. We will strive to give players the skill set needed to make the State team, Regional ODP team, and Varsity soccer team at their high school, obtain a college scholarship, competitive enjoyment of the game, or whatever their goal is. The coaching staff will focus on solid player development utilized to build highly competitive teams. All players should be confident that their skills will be greatly enhanced through their involvement with the Los Gauchos program.

Purpose

To provide soccer players an opportunity to be part of a high quality player development program. Players should possess a strong desire and commitment to pursue competitive soccer. The UK coaching staff will enable skill development and the mastery of the game to any player committed to competing at a higher level. That commitment must be in the form of a strong work ethic, discipline to work on their own to develop their skills, commitment of time to make practices and games and an increased financial commitment.

Structure

Los Gauchos is a non profit organization and has been in existence since 1985. The administration consists of a volunteer board. The club objective is to have a competitive boy and girl team in each age bracket from U-9 through U-19. Highly qualified paid skills coaches will be hired for each Los Gauchos team. Part of the financial commitment of each player will entail a coach’s fee. Each team will have a separate team manager to handle the payment of the coach, necessary paperwork, and logistics regarding game schedules, tournaments and team communications.

Coaching Philosophy - System of Play

We at Los Gauchos Soccer Club believe in the learning and continuity of high quality soccer development geared to attaining success. Therefore throughout the club every team follows the same ‘System of Play’. This philosophy offers continuity coaching from all the pro coaching staff to all players.

Los Gauchos over the past year have initiated a scheme of coach rotation, assimilated from the British Soccer Academies. With all our coaches ‘on the same page’ with our ‘System of Play’ we have the capability to have continuity with coach rotation.

What is a system of play? And what can it bring to the Los Gauchos teams?

  • A system of play gives the team a framework within which each player has there own position, area of play and responsibilities
  • A system of play is a recognized pattern of play resulting from the use of certain players in fairly defined functions on the field
  • A system of play will optimize your team’s options on the ball, therefore creating more offensive opportunity and thus more scoring opportunities. This will lead to a better chance to win games
  • A system of play allows a team to develop a confidence through consistency in there playing style
  • A system of play will allow a rotation of player positions with the team, with the team still having the capability to play the same way
  • A system of play will help a team to develop a more consistent level of play
  • A system of play can be modified to deal with a particular circumstance or opponent or during a game to deal with a change in the strategy.

It is however important to remember:

  • There is no system of play that will overcome poor ball control, poor passing, poor movement and teamwork or poor shooting
  • Do system of play win you games? No, players win you games, but a system will enhance the players and teams chances of winning.

“The task of the coach is twofold: to get the best out of the players as individuals and as a team; and to ensure that the sum of the whole exceeds the sum of all the separate parts”
–Charles Hughes
